Celebrities at the 2019 US Open: See the Stars Holding Court at Courtside

Wimbledon may have all these princes and princesses, Dukes and duchesses, but the US Open is played out in Queens — and every year the stands are filled with celebrity fees.

In the first week of the final Grand slam of the season, stars of sports, film, television, modeling and other galaxies came to the USTA Billie Jean King national tennis center to see which of the Big three would receive the men’s title. 

(Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have won the last 11 majors and an astounding 54 of 65 since Wimbledon in 2003.) And all three Champions looked invincible in the first round matches.

On the women’s side, Serena Williams remains the Queen Queen for fans — model Gigi Hadid came out to watch her play in the second — round match-but a new generation of players, including Coco Gauff and reigning champion Naomi Osaka, have also fired the new York crowd.

Among the celebrities who performed at the Grand opening of the tournament were Hilaria and Alec Baldwin, spike Lee, Katie couric, Rita Moreno and Robin Roberts. On Monday, the spectacular spectators were Tony award winner Ben Platt (dear Evan Hansen) and Ali Stroker, who won this year’s Tony for Oklahoma !, sang the national anthem.

Athletes from other sports regularly make the pilgrimage to Flushing Meadows to see the Open. This year, Mike Tyson attended the opening ceremony, as did former Olympic gymnasts Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner.

Kobe Bryant came to watch Osaka and Gauff win their matches in the second round, setting up their fight in the third round of the Open tournament. Bryant, 41, knows a thing or two about being a young sports phenomenon — he joined the NBA at 18, just after graduating from high school. The future Hall of Fame also admitted to being «addicted» to tennis now that he’s retired.

During her match in the Osaka box, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was also seen getting a lot of love when he was spotted by an Open crowd, many of whom stood by him.

There were also many musical fees in the early rounds of the Open. Gladys knight, Empress of the Soul, attended the opening day of the tournament and the Queen even went to Queens to watch tennis — Queen Latifah welcomed Novak Djokovic.

Other celebrity encounters in the early rounds included Ben Stiller and Oscar Isaac (who watched John Isner win his match in the second round), Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer and designer Vera Wang.

But no matter how many stars Shine brightly in the stands, it’s what happens on the court, not on the court, that matters most at the U.S. Open. And everyone present, celebrities and civilians alike, should see who will take home the 2019 championship.
